How Payee Services Work
Here's a simple overview of how representative payee services typically work — from benefit income to day-to-day support.
- 1
Benefit income is received
A person receives Social Security or other benefit income.
- 2
Social Security may determine a payee is needed
The Social Security Administration may decide that a representative payee is appropriate.
- 3
IPS can be appointed
Integrity Payee Services can be appointed as the representative payee when appropriate.
- 4
Funds are received and managed
Benefit funds come to IPS and are managed on behalf of the individual.
- 5
Essential needs are prioritized
Housing, utilities, and daily living needs come first.
- 6
Records are maintained
Income, expenses, and balances are tracked carefully.
- 7
Open communication
The individual, family, guardian, or support team may communicate with IPS as needed.
